Billboard types
Roadside, hoarding and highway advertising
Three types of outdoor advertising across Peninsular Malaysia. We handle site, approval, design, printing, installation and maintenance for all of them.

Roadside Billboard
A roadside billboard is a free-standing advertising structure placed beside a road, at a junction or near a busy town. Drivers, riders and pedestrians see it every day, so it builds steady local awareness.
Best for
- Retail, F&B and service brands targeting a specific town or neighbourhood
- Promotions and product launches that need repeat exposure
- Property, education and automotive campaigns
What you get
- Sites in busy towns and suburbs across Peninsular Malaysia
- Flexible rental periods
- Design, print and installation handled for you

Construction Site Board / Hoarding
Hoarding boards are the temporary walls built around a construction site. They sit in prime locations, run for a long stretch and can carry large, continuous artwork along the road.
Best for
- Brands that want a long run in a central or high-traffic area
- Developers promoting a new project on their own site
- Campaigns that need a wide, panoramic layout
What you get
- Long-lasting placement for the length of the construction
- Wide format for bold, continuous visuals
- Often more cost-effective per metre than standalone boards

Highway Board
A highway board is a large billboard placed along an expressway or major highway. It is built to be read at speed, so it reaches thousands of commuters and travellers every day.
Best for
- National and regional brands that want maximum reach
- Travel, telco, electronics and finance campaigns
- Big launches and seasonal promotions
What you get
- Very high daily traffic volume
- Large size for strong brand impact
- Sites on key routes across Peninsular Malaysia
FAQ
Common questions
How do you find billboard sites for my campaign?
We shortlist available sites from our own network of billboard owners across Peninsular Malaysia, matched to the area, board type and budget you give us. Tell us your target town or road and roughly what you want to spend, and we check availability and pricing directly with the site owners before sending you options — you don't need to go site-hunting or negotiate with owners yourself.
How much does billboard advertising cost in Malaysia?
Billboard rental in Malaysia typically runs from around RM1,000 a month for a static board on a quiet suburban road to well over RM100,000 a month for a premium highway site, with digital boards usually costing more per month than static ones. Location, board size, format and rental length all affect the price, and rates are negotiable. See our billboard cost guide for typical ranges by board type, or tell us your area and budget and we'll give you a real quote.
Do I need a permit to put up a billboard in Malaysia?
Yes — every billboard needs an advertisement licence from the local council, such as DBKL, MBPJ or MBSJ depending on where the site is. In Kuala Lumpur specifically, DBKL also requires sign-off from Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) on the Bahasa Melayu wording. We handle the full application for every billboard we install, so you don't deal with the paperwork yourself.
What's the difference between a roadside billboard, a highway board and a hoarding board?
A roadside billboard is a free-standing sign beside a local road or junction, a highway board is a large-format sign on an expressway reaching much higher traffic volumes, and a hoarding board is advertising printed on the temporary construction wall around a building site. Roadside boards suit local, repeat-visibility campaigns; highway boards suit brands wanting maximum reach fast; hoarding boards suit long-running campaigns tied to one growing area. Tell us your goal and we'll recommend which fits.
How long does it take to put up a billboard?
Installation itself usually takes a matter of days once a site is confirmed and your artwork is ready — the main variable is how long council approval takes, which can range from about a week to several weeks depending on the council and whether DBP sign-off is needed in Kuala Lumpur. Tell us your target launch date early and we'll give you a realistic timeline and flag anything that could delay it.
What's the minimum rental period for a billboard?
Bookings can run as short as one month, though most advertisers commit to three months or longer since longer terms typically bring a meaningful discount off the monthly rate. Some premium sites set their own minimum, which we'll flag when we check availability. Tell us how long you want to run your campaign and we'll match it to the right site and term.
Does SideBillboard include design?
Yes, design is included as an optional part of our A to Z service — our designers can create artwork sized correctly for your chosen board, so you don't need to hire a separate designer. If you already have artwork, we'll check it fits the board's exact dimensions and print it as-is instead.
Can I advertise on a hoarding board while a building is still under construction?
Yes — hoarding board advertising is built for exactly this: the temporary wall required around any construction site doubles as a long-running, wide-format ad panel for the length of the project, often many months. Before booking, we check the actual construction timeline with the developer so your artwork gets the full exposure period you're paying for.
Are digital billboards more expensive than static billboards?
Digital billboards generally cost more per month than an equivalent static board, since the screen itself and its running costs are higher — but digital lets you update creative without reprinting, book shorter flexible runs, and share a prime site's cost by rotating with other advertisers. Static usually wins on cost-per-month for one long, unmissable message in a fixed spot. We'll walk you through real pricing for both at a specific site.
What types of billboards can I advertise on?
We work with three main types: roadside billboards, highway boards, and construction site hoarding boards, in both static and digital formats. If you're not sure which suits your brand, we'll recommend one based on your audience, target area and budget.
What areas of Malaysia do you cover?
We cover all states and federal territories across Peninsular Malaysia, from local roads in small towns to major expressways like the Federal Highway, PLUS, LDP and NKVE. Tell us the specific area you want and we'll check what's available there.
What happens if my billboard is damaged or needs repair?
Repairs are handled as part of our service for as long as your billboard is up — if a board is damaged by weather, vandalism or general wear, we get it fixed quickly so your campaign isn't sitting there looking bad or invisible. This is included, not billed separately, for boards we install and maintain.
What information do you need from me to give a quote?
At minimum: the area or road you want, the type of board (or "not sure yet"), and roughly how long you want to advertise for. Board size and whether you need design help are useful too, but optional. The quickest way is our short quote form — it takes about two minutes and we reply with real options and pricing by the next working day.
Not sure which board fits?
Tell us your audience and budget. We will recommend the right type and sites.
